Two Weeks of Sports

The Santa Barbara Foresters are loaded with baseball stars. They will comprise one third of the players in the 2011 California Collegiate League All-Star Game – that’s 18 out of 54 selections – on Wednesday evening, July 13, at Casey Stengel Field in Glendale. Locals turn out for Area Code tryouts

Some of Southern California’s best high school baseball players put their talents on display for pro baseball scouts and college coaches from around the country Wednesday at Westmont College in the first of three tryout sessions for Milwaukee Brewers’ Area Code team

The players selected after the final session on July 15 will comprise a team that will compete in the prestigious Area Code Games in August at Blair Field in Long Beach. more

Monthly Public Telescope Night

Westmont Public Telescope Night. See cool stuff in the night sky through telescopes set up by the Astronomical Unit, the local amateur astronomy club sponsored by the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Most months the large telescope at the new observatory is also available for viewing, run by the Physics Department at Westmont. Observations are weather permitting, are held on the third Friday of each month, and are free to the public. The observatory is next to the baseball field. more
