Santa Barbara Airport Presents ‘Songs of the Season’ Holiday Concerts

Local school choirs and ensembles will entertain passengers and visitors alike at the Santa Barbara Airport’ssecond annual Songs of the Season at the new airline terminal, 500 James Fowler Road, on Dec. 10 and Dec. 18-20. Songs of the Season will feature Dos Pueblos High School, the San Marcos High School Madrigal Singers and A Cappella Choir, the Santa Barbara High School Madrigal Singers, The MistleTones, the Westmont College Winds and the Young Singers Club. more

Entrepreneurial Students to Compete in Westmont Business Plan Competition

Four final venture teams will face off at the 23rd annual Collegiate Entrepreneurs Business Plan Competition from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in Westmont College’s Founders Room. The competition is free and open to the public. Ybarra named new Fusion coach

The new coach is a familiar Fusion face. Rudy Ybarra, who served as an assistant coach during the inaugural 2007 Premier Development League season, has returned to the Ventura County Fusion as the third head coach in franchise history…Ybarra will bring in longtime Westmont coach Dave Wolf as his top assistant. more

Two Montecito Boy Scouts Achieve Rank of Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 33 of Montecito honored the advancement of two Scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony held Friday at All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. Eagle Scout is the highest rank of Boy Scouts of America. Charles Haslem began his journey to Eagle in sixth grade, and Jeremy Work in seventh. Each Scout completed extensive requirements, earned at least 21 merit badges and completed an Eagle Scout service project. … Work’s Eagle Scout project involved the construction and installation of stage sets, sound and lights for a dramatic performance held by the Bravissimo summer program at Westmont College. more

Towbes Establishes Performing Arts Fund Through Santa Barbara Foundation

Longtime Santa Barbara resident and business leader Michael Towbes has established The Towbes Fund for the Performing Arts at the Santa Barbara Foundation to benefit nonprofit performing arts organizations and their venues throughout Southern California. … A founding member of the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara and a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Santa Barbara Foundation, Towbes has also been honored by his selection as Santa Barbara’s Man of the Year, and is the recipient of both the UCSB Chancellor’s Medal and the Westmont Medal. more
