Don’t look; taste : Blindness foundation to hold Dining in the Dark fundraiser

If you couldn’t see, even the simplest tasks would require more patience and effort. To give you a taste of empathy, the Foundation Fighting Blindness is holding Santa Barbara Dining in the Dark, the first such dinner fundraiser by the nonprofit in Santa Barbara, at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort, 633 E. Cabrillo Blvd. … At the dinner — with the lights on — the foundation will present its Visionary Award to two visually impaired Santa Barbara residents. They are David Winter, who was president of Westmont College from 1976 to 2001 and Providence Hall headmaster from 2007 to his retirement in 2010, and Mary Romo, who was a Goleta Union School District speech and language specialist from 1967 until retiring in 1999. more
