NAIA WOMEN’S SOCCER TOURNAMENT: Warriors prevail in tough shootout

Powered by two clutch saves in a shootout, the Westmont women’s soccer team won its NAIA Tournament opener on Saturday, beating visiting Westminster 4-1 in penalty kicks at Thorrington Field. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation. “I feel like it was a really hard test that we eventually overcame,” Westmont midfielder Courtney Stonesifer said. “I’m just really proud of the girls who stepped up and just showed their heart and desire to win this game.” more

Gougis finds her comfort zone to lead Warriors past Fighting Saints

In the opening game of the 2013 CHM Hotels Basketball Invitational on Friday night, it was best of halves and it was the worst of halves for the third-ranked Westmont women’s basketball team against No. 18 Carroll (Mont.). Actually, neither half was bad for the Warriors (3-2). They took the lead into the locker room at halftime before using a big second half to beat the Fighting Saints, 65-44, their first loss of the season. more
