Alfaro, Harris honored at season’s first fete

Westmont Ranks in Top 100 Colleges by U.S. News & World Report

For the fifth straight year, the U.S. News & World Report ranked Westmont College in the top 100 best liberal arts colleges. “America’s Best Colleges, 2014 Edition” lists Westmont as 94th out of the nation’s 248 liberal arts colleges. more

Review: Invisible Realms, Contemporary Art and the Sacred at Westmont

Invisible Realms, a new group exhibition at the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum, takes as its point of departure the fact that many contemporary artists connect with the sacred without employing traditional religious subjects, genres, or media. Using video, abstraction, appropriation, assemblage, and performance to make their statements, the works on display in Invisible Realms point beyond themselves toward some more elusive experience or state of being. more


Westmont got its first win of  the season, a 4-2 home verdict over Whittier. Assistant coach Tovi  Eliasen said a couple of local players — Muhammad Mehai of Carpinteria High and Marcos Lopez of SBHS — have been outstanding on defense. more

WSoc: Warriors pick up pace, blank Corban

A penalty kick by Alison Hensley and a goal by Tiffany Dimaculangan were all the Westmont Warriors (4-0-1) needed to defeat the Corban (Ore.) Warriors 2-0 on Monday afternoon at Thorrington Field. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Royals land Division 5 title at California Tennis Classic


Jonathan Yeeles had a goal and two assists in the Warriors’ victory, while Nana Ayken and Cody Howen added a goal and an assist each. Tanner Wolf scored the other goal for Westmont (1-1).



K.J. Hornibrook had a goal and an assist for the Warriors in a win over the NCAA Division II Flames. more

Sharing is everything

In a separate incident, on Friday night Westmont student Nick Kennedy was swimming with friends off Butterfly Lane in Montecito. He felt something bite his foot, banged it with his other foot, then swam to shore. A senior lifeguard later contacted me, sending me photos of the bite and asking if Mr. Kennedy had been attacked by a sea lion. more

THE POLO SET: Wood’s ERG in a good mood after Pacific Coast title

Kelly Plato, the CFO of ERG, was on hand playing in the eight-goal tournaments. Scott Devon, the patron of Catamount, needed to leave town early and Plato filled in for him. It bumped up his handicap to zero.

This tournament was also good for Patrick Uretz, captain of the Westmont polo team. He filled in for Henry Walker of Farmers & Merchants. more

Harris’ hat trick sparks SBCC’s win

The Warriors continued their red-hot start with a 25-27, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16 victory over the Riverside-based Golden Eagles.

Madison Serrano led the Warriors (11-0) with a match-high 19 kills, while Ciara Turner added 10 kills for Westmont, which hit at a .289 clip.

Wesmtont hosts Cal Lutheran on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. more

UCSB wants to refill its College Cup in future

A makeover of Harder Stadium’s men’s and women’s lockerrooms has already started.

But the Gauchos also need to construct a secondary grass field to be used for College Cup practice. The teams had to go across town to Westmont College to work out in 2010. more
