MBK: Westmont slowed by Wooster in tourney

PHOENIX, Ariz. — In the opening game of the Arizona Christian Classic in Phoenix Monday evening, Westmont Men’s Basketball (8-3) fell to the Fighting Scots of NCAA Division III second-ranked College of Wooster (Ohio) by a score of 53-47.

The Warriors held on to a 29-22 lead at the half, thanks in part to guard Nate Marsing (14 points, 4 rebounds) who played substantial minutes in the wake of Billy Keller’s injury Saturday against Simpson. more

WSoc: Westmont’s Smith, Hensley earn first-team All-American honors

Four Westmont soccer players have been named to the 2013 NAIA Women’s Soccer All-America teams.

Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Smith of Pleasanton and senior midfielder Alison Hensley of Huntington Beach were named to the first team. Senior defender Amanda Diesen of Irvine was a second team selection. Junior midfielder Tiffany Dimaculangan of Glendora was honored as a member of the third team. more

Red Hawks no match for Warriors

Led by the offensive prowess of 6-foot-9 center Daniel Carlin, Westmont’s men’s basketball team overpowered the visiting Simpson University 89-63 Saturday to extend their winning-streak to seven games. “I thought Daniel Carlin had a really nice first half with 12 points and eight rebounds and most importantly he put them in foul trouble,” Warriors coach John Moore said. “We got to the free throw line quite a bit, which is a good sign of aggressive play.” After scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds by the 13:06 mark of the second half, Moore let Carlin sit, as the Warriors were already up 56-43. more

Sam Johnson helps Concordia to NAIA soccer title

Westmont, which was ranked No. 4 in the NAIA poll, finished with a 17-2-5 record. Westmont had played Concordia to a 0-0 draw at Westmont on Aug. 30. Westmont reached the final by beating Northwood of Florida 7-6 on penalty kicks on Friday. more

Considering the Hardeman lineage of successful players and coaches, such accomplishments simply run in the family. Hardeman’s father, Tine, an NAIA All-American in the 1950s at Westmont College, still holds the school’s single-game scoring record (46 points). more
