Spring events heating up like the warm weather

A visitor attending Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Roundtable luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe would have found out that the spring sports season is heating up, just like the weather.  … Westmont sports information director Ron Smith reported that the Westmont baseball team will travel to play San Diego Christian in the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament’s opening round at noon on Thursday. more

Hashtag, California here they come.

Students around the U.S. and in this state are tweeting like crazy at #westmontsaidyes. The Montecito Christian college, which already had a Facebook page for newly accepted students, expanded its admissions acceptance program this school year to include Twitter. That’s where new students have been announcing the college accepted them and family and friends have been giving their congratulations, prompted by the school’s unique acceptance notifications. more

Westmont students band together to save water

A friendly competition dubbed Water Wars was waged between Westmont College dorms this semester, resulting in more than 227,000 gallons of water being saved since students returned from spring break. more

In Southern California we proudly “drink local.” Having a favorite brewery in your community is part of your identity as a craft beer consumer. But the beer you are drinking is not as local as you think; domestic base malt is grown and malted almost entirely in the northern and middle United States. Thanks to the entrepreneurial efforts of craft maltsters, however, this is changing for the first time since the craft beer movement began. … Curtis Davenport – farmer and micro-maltster- oversees his 2014 planting of 2-row barley on fifty acres, sharing land with vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. … A Wyoming native, Davenport grew up in Colorado and attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara as a biology major with an ecology focus. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Westmont men win GSAC track title

The Westmont men’s track team captured their second consecutive Golden State Athletic Conference team title on Saturday. Competing on their home track, the Warriors tallied 298 points to outscore five other schools, including runner-up Concordia with 219 points. Westmont men’s coach Russell Smelley was also named Men’s GSAC Coach of the Year. more

Master’s romps in win over Westmont

Andrew Klausmeier took a tumble while trying to reach first bases on a dropped third strike in the eighth inning of Friday’s Golden State Athletic Conference baseball game between his Master’s College squad and host Westmont at Russ Carr Field. As he sheepishly went back to the dugout, his Mustangs teammates gave him support, as the tumble on the basepaths was his only mistake on an otherwise spectacular day. more

Westmont in hunt for team titles on home turf

At Friday’s Golden State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at the Westmont track, every point mattered in the team competition as six schools — including the host Warriors — vied for the men’s and women’s titles. After the first of a two-day competition, the host men’s squad leads second place Biola 91-70, putting itself in position to possibly repeat as GSAC champions. more

Westmont Student Dorms Battle in Water-Saving Wars

A friendly competition among Westmont College residence halls has resulted in the savings of more than 228,000 gallons of water since students returned from spring break March 17.

The Westmont Campus Life and Student Life offices will announce the winning residence hall of Every Drop Counts this Friday, and a celebration party will be held Monday at 8:30 p.m. at the winning location. more

Gutierrez and Poltavski each Win Opening Match in Singles at Ojai Tournament

Gutierrez received a bye in the opening round before defeating Allison Moncrief from the University of La Verne (Calif.), 6-3, 6-3, in the Round of 32. She will take on #1-seeded Lauren Stratman from Westmont College (Calif.) in the Round of 16 on Friday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m. (PDT). more
