$750,000 Grant to Fund Science Building Remodel at Westmont College

The Fletcher Jones Foundation has awarded a $750,000 grant to Westmont Collegetoward the renovation of the college’s biology and chemistry labs. The grant will improve classroom and lab spaces inside the Whittier Science Building, which opened in 1985. more

Three New Trustees Join Westmont College Board

Two parents of Westmont College graduates and an alumna have joined the 29-member WestmontBoard of Trustees, which oversees the operations of the college. more

Dr. Charles R. Courtney

Professor Emeritus of English, Dr. Charles R. Courtney, passed away peacefully at home with family in attendance on January 23rd, 2014, in Sedona, Arizona.  He was 91.  A Native of Plainfield, New Jersey (born December 9th, 1923), he excelled early in academics, which included graduation from Tucson High School, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Westmont College, and a Master and Doctorate of Philosophy in Medieval English Literature from the University of Arizona. more

Dr. Charles Courtney, Formerly of Santa Barbara, 1923-2014

Dr. Charles R. Courtney, professor emeritus of English, passed away peacefully at home with family in attendance on Jan. 23, 2014, in Sedona, Ariz. He was 91. Westmont College Music and Theatre Department, An Evening of One-Act Opera Classics – Following the 2013-2014 award-winning smash hit The Pirates of Penzance, the Westmont Music and Theatre department collaborate again to present two classics of world music theater: The Old Maid and the Thief (1939), by Gian Carlo Menotti, and La Serva Padrona (The Servant Turned Mistress) (1733), by Giovanni Pergolesi. more

MBK: Westmont heats up in 2nd half

Westmont took charge in the second half, shooting 62 percent en route to a 79-64 men’s basketball win at Claremont Mudd-Scripps on Saturday night, “It felt like we had a little bit of the “post finals blues” in the first half, but I really liked the way we played for most of the second half,” said Westmont coach John Moore, referring to end-of-the semester final exams. “I thought we competed, I thought we were tough.” more

WBK: Karr drives Westmont past Bethesda

Junior Krissy Karr tallied 23 points, sparking No. 11 Westmont to a 67-58 women’s basketball win over the visiting Flames of Bethesda on Saturday. Karr dropped in five three-pointers as the Warriors drained 14 buckets from beyond the arc. “Krissy set the tone from the beginning and had great command on the court,” said Westmont head coach Kirsten Moore, “not just with her scoring, but she also had seven assists, three steals and was getting deflections.” more
