Girls Soccer: Class 4A girls soccer all-state teams: Sarah Connelly of Valley Catholic is the player of the year

If Valley Catholic senior Sarah Connelly has played her last competitive soccer game, she at least picked a good one to go out on. Back on Nov. 15, Connelly — a senior on the Valiants girls team who has yet to decide on her future in soccer — scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the Class 4A state championship game, a goal that gave her team a3-2 victory over Cascade at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. … “I’m just super happy and excited,” Connelly said when alerted to the honor. “All the work really paid off, all the early-morning workouts. I really have to thank my teammates and (Valley Catholic coach Kayla Crandall).” … “Obviously, it’s not about individual honors — those just come with wins,” said Crandall, who played in high school at Jesuit, then for four years at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, serving as team captain her senior season. more
