Matsunobu, the daughter of Miriam and Neal Matsunobu of Kona, also was in the in the news for her science accomplishments — she attended the Summer Science Program at Westmont College last summer and she was a presenter at the Galaxy Forum in Waimea in November. more

With a mom who served tea every morning before school, Santa Barbara native Lauren Danson is a lifelong tea fanatic, even hosting weekly tea parties out of her Westmont College dorm room. “My friends would tell me every week, ‘This is what you need to do with your life,’” said Danson. more

With a non-league game on Monday’s docket for the Dos Pueblos High baseball team, it was decided to give sophomore Travis Craven another opportunity to get a start at the varsity level.
It turned out to pay off handsomely for the Chargers, as the lefty limited the Mustangs to three hits over six innings in a 3-1 Dos Pueblos victory at Westmont’s Russ Carr Field. more

“We had 44 PRs, four school records and four national qualifiers. That’s good preparation and shows that we’re getting ready for the conference title hunt,” Smelley said. more
Trent Ewert graduated in 2008, plays percussion and is involved in church and Christian camp music programs. Evan, who graduated with the class of 2011, plays tuba for the Westmont Orchestra, and daughter Eirena is a senior at YHS this year. She plays the flute, piccolo, and bassoon. Hyatt encouraged and taught Eirena to play all three instruments. more

Have you ever considered that Westmont College and Santa Barbara City College never make the news in the same way as UCSB? I don’t deny the fact that students from these colleges may in fact be participants in the revelry that occurs every single weekend in I.V. and twice a year during Halloween and Deltopia. But the fact of the matter is, a party atmosphere has never been allowed to develop on or near these campuses like it has in I.V. If you think there is nothing that can be done about the recent riot during Deltopia, consider the fact that Cal Poly San Luis Obispo used to have some similar problems twice a year during Cal Poly Royal and Mardi Gras, but the city and the university teamed up and shut it all down. more
Give Her Life was founded April 2013 by Westmont College alumna Elizabeth Reno.
“If you remove women from society, it kind of affects everybody,” Reno said. “So there are lots of ways that it has global impact, and removing women is what drives a lot of things like trafficking, and child-brides being married to much older men, and bride buying, and even now having millions and millions of Indian and Chinese men [who] will never be able to find wives. … It affects a society to have millions of single men.” more
