Mitchell is Out as UCSB Women’s Head Basketball Coach

Carlene Mitchell could not survive a 2-27 season and today UCSB announced that she is out as the women’s basketball coach. …Mitchell beat out Westmont College Head Coach Kirsten Moore for the job back in 2011. Since that time, Moore won an NAIA National Championship in 2013 for Westmont and she guided her team to the national semifinals this year. Moore will likely be a candidate this time around as well. more

High Winds Cause Damage At Westmont College

Strong wind gusts overnight caused some damage at Westmont College. Around 9 p.m., the windows and doors were vibrating at the library. “It sounds like a freight train when the wind really kicks up up here,” said Debra Quast, the library director. The high winds cracked one of the library windows as students were studying inside. more

Westmont coach learns the error of his ways

Ignorance is baseball bliss, Westmont College coach Robert Ruiz declared during Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Café.

“I didn’t realize this until a couple of hours before our game on Thursday, but we were actually leading the nation in fielding percentage,” he said. “And as soon as I found that out, we made four errors.” more

Westmont women eliminated by OKC

The Westmont College women’s basketball team’s season ended on Monday in the semifinals of the NAIA women’s national tournament with a 77-57 loss to defending national champion, Oklahoma City.

The Stars (29-2) improve to 11-2 all-time in the championship and semifinals and will face No. 1 Campbellsville in the championship game. more

Warriors advance to NAIA title game

Coach John Moore knew the player that he wanted to decide one of the biggest basketball games in Westmont College history.

“We put the ball in our best guy’s hand, and Cory Blau had no hesitation,” Moore said, according to an NAIA release. more

MBK: Missing a key ingredient, Westmont falls in NAIA final

Westmont was missing a huge part of its game in its first NAIA National Tournament final.

Standout center Daniel Carlin was suffering from the flu, and the 6-9 senior’s absence loomed large for the Warriors in their match-up with first-time finalist Dalton State, Ga., on Tuesday night at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. more

Westmont Denied NAIA Championship by Dalton State

Westmont College missed Daniel Carlin and they missed their three-point shots as they lost in the NAIA Championship game 71-53 to Dalton State of Georgia.

Carlin managed to play just the first three minutes as he could not shake an illness that put him in the hospital during the day. Head Coach John Moore speculated that Carlin had food poisoning. more

Westmont stuns top-seeded Hope International to reach NAIA men’s final

Sophomore guard Cory Blau hit the game-winning jumper with 7.1 seconds remaining to lift unseeded Westmont to a 70-69 victory over No. 1-seeded Hope International on Monday in the semifinals of the NAIA Division I men’s basketball championship in Kansas City, Mo. more
