MBK: Blau’s shot puts Westmont into championship game

Cory Blau hit a 12-foot jumper with seven seconds left in regulation, lifting Westmont to a 70-69 victory over GSAC rival and top-seeded Hope International in the semifinals at the NAIA National Basketball Tournament on Monday night in Kansas City.

The Warriors advance to their first national championship game on Tuesday night against sixth-seeded Dalton State, Ga. at 5 p.m. PDT. more

WBK: Westmont falls to defending champs in NAIA semis

Defending national champion Oklahoma City continued its quest for a second-straight national title Monday night with a 77-57 win against No. 4 Westmont in the Fab Four of the 2015 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship.

“It’s unbelievable, especially when you have six new players and only five returners,” said Oklahoma City head coach Latricia Trammell. “The toughness that they’ve shown through adversity – I’m really proud of this team.” more

Westmont Women’s Run Ends in NAIA Semifinals

Westmont College cut a 46-28 second half deficit to four points but their rally fell short and the Warriors lost 77-57 to Oklahoma City in a semifinal game at the NAIA National Tournament.

Kristin Karr scored a game-high 24 points as the Warriors got within 54-50 midway through the second half. But Oklahoma City regrouped and pulled away for the win. more

Westmont Men Advances to National Championship Game

The Warriors have gone where no Westmont College men’s basketball team has ever reached, the NAIA National Championship game.

Sophomore Cory Blau sank a jumper with 7.1 seconds left to give Westmont a thrilling 70-69 semifinal win over number one ranked Hope International. The Royals had beaten Westmont in two previous meetings in Golden State Athletic Conference games. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Warriors book Fab Four berth

Regulation wasn’t enough time for the Westmont women’s basketball team in Saturday’s quarterfinal round of the NAIA National Tournament.

It took three overtimes against Oklahoma Baptist, but the Warriors were able to come away with an 83-81 victory, reaching the semifinal round for the second time in the last three years. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Westmont women in NAIA quarters

Two years removed from winning the NAIA women’s basketball title, the Westmont women’s basketball team shook up this year’s NAIA Tournament with Friday’s 68-59 victory over Westminster.

The Warriors knocked out the No. 1 team in their region and earned a berth in the final eight of the 32-team tournament in Independence, Mo., thanks in part to a solid offensive output in the first half. more

Westmont advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Men’s National Basketball Tournament on Friday with a 65-61 win over Campbellsville, Ky.

Cory Blau hit two free throws with four seconds to go for a two-point lead, and the Warriors forced a turnover. With 1.8 seconds left, Campbellsville fouled Hayden Anderson and he made both of his free throws for the final margin. more

Karr leads Westmont at NAIAs

Krissy Karr scored 18 points and had six assists and Esther Lee scored 17 points to lead the Westmont women’s basketball team to a 74-63 win over Lyon College of Arkansas in the first round of the NAIA National Championship on Thursday in Independence, Mo. more
