LOCAL ROUNDUP: UCSB women’s soccer hosts Westmont

UCSB, which was picked to finish sixth in the Big West Conference women’s soccer coaches’ poll, will see its first action tonight at 7 o’clock when it plays host to Westmont College in an exhibition match. Coach Paul Stumpf’s Gauchos return their top three scorers — senior Angelisa Cortez, junior Sara Feder, and junior Dakota Griggs — as well as starting goalkeeper Beth Ritter from last year’s 8-9-2 team. UCSB, which will also play Loyola in a 7 p.m. exhibition at Harder Stadium on Saturday, tied Hawaii for sixth place in the nine-team survey. Cal Poly was chosen as the preseason favorite, followed by Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and Cal State Northridge. more
