Westmont Alumnus Nick Andersen Joins Ranks of Lilly Fellows

Westmont alumnus Nick Andersen ’13, who earned a Master of Divinity from Duke University this year, has received a prestigious Lilly Graduate Fellowship.

The Lilly Graduate Fellows Program in Humanities and the Arts provides $3,000 a year while Andersen pursues a doctorate in religious studies at Brown University, focusing on political theory, American religious thought and Christian theology. more

Students, colleagues mourn murdered Christian professor

When a student killed a UCLA professor on June 2 and then turned the gun on himself, he murdered a professing Christian beloved by students, Little League players, colleagues, and his wife and two young children. …Klug in 2004 told the Westmont College alumni magazine, “Knowing there is a God responsible for the world makes a big difference in my motivation to understand it better. … I developed a habit of relying on God for what I felt was beyond my ability to control or what I couldn’t do for myself.” more

AJ Capital executive named president of Graduate Hotels

Chicago developer AJ Capital Partners has picked one of its own to lead the expansion of Graduate Hotels, its chain of college-town hotels. …Franzen, who joined AJ Capital in 2013, is filling a role that had been vacant since Christian Strobel left as president more than a year ago. Franzen was previously a principal at Harp Group, an Oak Brook-based hotel developer. He also co-founded Portfolio Hotels & Resorts, a management company in Westmont. more
