Santa Barbara Track Club members Lindsay Schwartz and Thomas FitzSimons Jr. were the big winners at the fifth annual Sam Adams Combined Events Invitational at Westmont’s Thorrington Field on Saturday.
Schwartz captured the heptathlon with 5,991 points while FitzSimons Jr. won the decathlon title with 7,578 points. more

Friday might have been April Fool’s Day, but there was no fooling around on the mound for Westmont pitcher Daniel Butler.
The junior righty led the seventh-ranked Warriors to a 6-1 non-conference victory over Bethesda at Russ Carr Field.
Butler improved to 7-1 on the season for the Warriors (26-6) by allowing one earned run on five hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none. It marked Butler’s 18th career win for Westmont, and lowered his season earned-run average to 1.53. more

Jan died of ovarian cancer February 23, surrounded by her family and beloved cat, Wally. Up until a week before her passing, she was able to enjoy her favorite activities – her genealogy study group and lunch with her former students at IHOP. …Jan continued singing with the local Opera Workshop and performed in many operas over the years as well as teaching voice, both privately and at Westmont College. more
