Sean McDonnell had a game-high 22 points on an efficient 7-for-8 from the field in the Warriors’ exhibition home opener. Sean Harman hit a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 16 points, while Samuel Bentz had 14 points and nine rebounds. more

The toughest game you’ll ever play is sometimes the waiting game, several high school football coaches discovered this weekend… Westmont College (31-0) is also rated No. 1 – in the entire NAIA – but that means it will get a bye all the way until pool play begins at the NAIA Tournament in Sioux City, Ia. on Nov. 19. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Warriors fall short to Golden Bears

The Westmont women’s basketball team played its third game in a week on Sunday, heading to the Bay Area to face California in an exhibition game at Haas Pavilion. The Warriors suffered an 87-48 loss to the Golden Bears, coached by former UCSB coach Lindsay Gottlieb. more

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Owls reach CIF-SS volleyball semifinals

The top-seeded Laguna Blanca girls volleyball team made a big step to the CIF-SS Division 6 final with a 25-19, 25-21, 16-25, 25-15 victory over Hemet in the division quarterfinals… Libby Dahlberg had 10 kills to lead Westmont (31-0, 16-0), while Cassidy Rea added eight kills in the win. A trio of Warriors – Samantha Neely, Jessica McCann and Sarah McGough – added seven kills each. Kami Troesh had 18 digs on defense. more

Name Dropping: A holiday for the dogs

The holidays came early at the Santa Cruz County Fair Grounds, as members of the Monterey Bay Dog Training Club recently gathered at their onsite training center for the annual Gifts from the Heart holiday fundraiser… Murphy attends NCTI’s paramedic training program in Monterey, and graduated from Westmont College. more

What to Expect for UCSB Men’s and Women’s Basketball

Westmont College’s women’s basketball has a tough exhibition schedule this week. They will play at UCLA (tonight, Nov. 3) and at Cal (Sun, Nov. 6). Coach Kirsten Moore’s Warriors should be well prepared for the regular season. In the last five years, they have averaged 27 victories. They won the NAIA national championship in 2013. more
