Weiss’ son also rises in another baseball comeback

Brody Weiss was too young to remember his first big moment in a baseball stadium. He wasn’t quite 4 years old when he waved at his dad from his mother’s lap at Denver’s Coors Field. Walt Weiss struggled to control himself as he waved back, the touching scene having stirred the largest ovation during the player introductions for Major League Baseball’s 1998 All-Star Game. Walt, then a shortstop for the Atlanta Braves, would later describe it as “a miracle” that his son was even there — or alive, for that matter — after having just recovered from a near-fatal infection of E. coli bacteria. more
