Westmont Women Rally to Defeat Master’s in Overtime

(SANTA CLARITA, Calif.) Down 2-0 with just less than 30 minutes to play, #9 Westmont Women’s Soccer (13-3-1, 10-0 GSAC) rallied to defeat #14 The Master’s (13-4-1 6-3-1) by a 3-2 score in overtime. With the win, Westmont clinched second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings and earned a bye in the first round of the upcoming GSAC Tournament. more

Fans of boys water polo in the county will have a plethora of options on Tuesday, the opening day of the CIF-Southern Section water polo playoffs. … Johnson scored twice in Westmont’s victory, sending the match into overtime with an 87th-minute goal off a Destinee Adams assist. The Master’s held a 2-0 lead at the 61-minute mark, but Maddi Berthoud got Westmont on the board in the 69th minute on a header off a Haylee Lopes assist. more

Men’s and Women’s Basketball Host Preseason Exhibitions

An impromptu decision by the Oregon Athletic Department resulted in Oregon’s Men and Women Basketball teams hosting exhibition games. All proceeds will go to support those impacted by the wildfires throughout Oregon. The women played Portland State and the men played Idaho. … The Women’s Basketball team will host Westmont College in an exhibition game on Nov. 5. more

Whooping cough is a dangerous disease that can be fatal, especially for infants. The concern is that the number of cases has dramatically increased over the last few decades. A scientist on the South Coast is doing groundbreaking research on whooping cough in hopes that it leads to stopping the spread of this harmful disease. … Dr. Steve Julio, an associate professor of biology at Westmont College, is leading research into this bacteria. more

Westmont Sweeps to Share of GSAC Volleyball Title

Samantha Neely tallied 13 kills and Taylor Beckman added 10 more as NAIA No. 7 Westmont Volleyball swept Arizona Christian  in a Golden State Athletic Conference match and clinched a share of the conference regular-season title. Westmont (27-3, 11-0 GSAC) will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GSAC Tournament. The Warriors will have an opportunity to win the title outright Saturday night when they take on San Diego Christian (9-15, 2-8) in Santee. more

WOU’s Azorr named to Preseason All-GNAC Team

PORTLAND, Ore. – After averaging 10 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last season, senior Sydney Azorr was named to the 2017-18 All-GNAC Preseason Women’s Basketball Team, the league announced on Thursday. … Two exhibition matches will take place at home with the Wolves welcoming Lewis & Clark College eon Oct. 29 and Westmont College eon Nov. 2.
