Westmont Baseball Off to a 6-0 Start; Robert Ruiz Earns 200th Coaching Victory

In a game that featured a combined 24 hits and 16 runs, NAIA 8th-ranked Westmont Baseball claimed the lion’s share and posted a 9-7 victory over Corban of Oregon (3-4). The victory gives the Warriors a 6-0 record and marks the first time in program history the team has won its first six games. The victory is also the 200th for Westmont head coach Robert Ruiz, whose record improved to 200-164-1 (.549). more

STEFANI DIAS: Speed dating gets friendly literary twist

Valentine’s Day has passed but love is still in the air — at least in the literary sense — at the Kern County Library’s northeast branch.  Today, the library will host a Literary Speed Dating event, the brainchild of branch supervisor Ariel Dyer. She organized a similar event at the Literary Society at Westmont College when she was a student there and thought it would be a good fit. more

The Warriors (21-3) stepped outside Golden State Athletic Conference play to face the San Marcos-based Firebirds, coming away with an easy victory… Kayla Sato just missed a quadruple-double for Westmont, finishing 17 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals. more

Charles Albert Rogers Charles Albert Rogers was born on July 27, 1938 in the Azores, Portugal. He and his family immigrated to Fresno, California in 1947. Chuck graduated from Fresno High School, Westmont College and Fuller Seminary, earning a doctorate degree in Christian Education. more

SoCal Prep Legends Boys Athlete of the Week: Kyle Scalmanini, Claremont

Kyle Scalmanini… The 6-foot-2 point guard and team captain came up huge for the Wolfpack in a 66-56 upset of Palomares League front-runner Bonita with 17 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Later in the week, Claremont registered a 64-48 win over Ayala with Scalmanini chalking up eight points, nine rebounds, five assists and a steal. This season, Scalmanini, who has signed with Westmont College, is averaging 17 points, 4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals. more

Westmont Takes Two from Oregon’s Corban

A come-from-behind victory in the first game and a sixth-run fourth inning in the second, gave Westmont Baseball what it needed to sweep Corban of Oregon in a doubleheader at Russ Carr Field. Westmont won the opener 4-3 on a bases-loaded ground ball in the ninth before winning the nightcap by a score of 7-1. more

Westmont Women Post Blow-Out Victory

Joy Krupa and Kayla Sato each had a double-double and four other Warriors scored in double-digits to lead NAIA third-ranked Westmont Women’s Basketball to a 107-25 win over Saint Katherine in San Marcos on Saturday. more

Westmont Athletes Qualify for NAIA Indoor Championships

Competing at the Soka Indoor Qualifier, Westmont Track and Field saw several more athletes qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships that will be held March 2-4 in Johnson City, Tennessee. more

Aysia Shellmire led Westmont (20-3, 10-2 Golden State Athletic Conference) with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Lauren McCoy also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while leading the Warriors with four assists. more
