Mira Costa volleyball advances to semifinals with sweep of Huntington Beach

The Mira Costa boys volleyball team beat Huntington Beach 25-13, 25-22, 25-17 in a CIF SS quarterfinal match Saturday night at Huntington Beach High. The Mustangs (22-5) will make their first semifinal appearance under second-year coach Avery Drost and travel to Santa Barbara on Wednesday. … The trip to the semifinals will be a homecoming for Drost, who played his college volleyball at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. more

UCLA professor killed in murder-suicide identified

The UCLA professor who was gunned down Wednesday was identified in published reports and by students as 39-year-old William S. Klug, an El Segundo resident.

Klug earned degrees from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, UCLA in 1999 and from Caltech in Pasadena in 2003, according to a brief biography on the UCLA website. more
