Santa Ynez’s Dickey named Coach of the Year

Warren Dickey thought he had it all figured out. But soon enough, after a couple humbling situations, Dickey discovered that he didn’t know nearly as much as he thought he did. In 2014, though, Dickey does, indeed, got this coaching thing down pat. … Dickey has been coaching at various levels for 26 years. He played under Fred Warrecker at Santa Barbara High School. He then played at Westmont College and then in the minor leagues for two seasons before deciding to get into coaching. more

Lompoc Youth Theater to host sixth summer musical camp

Hairdos and excitement will be on the rise when Lompoc Youth Theater and Lompoc Recreation Division hold auditions Saturday, May 17, for this summer’s musical production, “Hairspray Jr.” … Miller James, who has been on the artistic team at Opera Santa Barbara, Westmont College Theatre and Ensemble Theatre will be designing the costumes. more

Lompoc high school students pack Global Leadership Connection 2014

The tenets of international leadership took on local significance when 20 Cabrillo High School juniors and five Lompoc High students attended the Global Leadership Connection Conference Feb. 7 at University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and March 2 at Westmont College. more

Church to hold installation service

Nelson, who has served as acting pastor since March 2012, graduated from Cabrillo High School in 1972 and Hancock College in 1974. He earned his Master of Divinity from Princeton Seminary and his Master of Arts and doctorate degrees from Harvard University. He is a professor of religious studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara and a chaplain, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, in the Air National Guard. more

Music Assoc. to open season

Both Dechaine and Januleviciute, Westmont College professors of music, have previously performed in Lompoc. Dechaine, operatic soprano and flautist, will be accompanied by Januleviciute, who also will perform three piano solos. more

LMA to launch 51st season: Sunday’s concert will feature Dechaine and Januleviciute

Nichole Dechaine and Egle Januleviciute, Westmont College professors of music, will be in concert Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Valley of the Flowers United Church of Christ, 3346 Constellation Road, Vandenberg Village. The special guests will initiate the Lompoc Music Association’s 51st year of bringing classical music by local professional talent to Lompoc. more


Nichole Dechaine will be the guest artist at this year’s award-winning Lompoc Pops Orchestra spring concert, with Maestro Rodolfo Fernandez at the helm. The evening concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22, at the First United Methodist Church, 925 North F St. in Lompoc. Dechaine is a voice instructor at Westmont College and also teaches music at Santa Barbara City College. She received her bachelor of music degree from the University of Redlands and her master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees in vocal performance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. more

College Fair set for Wednesday

Students and their parents who are wondering where to apply for college, or perhaps for financial aid, can learn about a wide range of options at the annual College Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Earl Warren Showgrounds’ Exhibit Building, 3400 Calle Real in Santa Barbara. … The popular event normally draws about 1,200 people. Sponsors include Santa Barbara City College, UCSB, Westmont College, the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara and Cal-SOAP. more
