Ballet patrons lucky enough to score tickets to a new version of Cinderella being staged next week will find something decidedly different on the stage: Along with a handsome prince, a beautiful princess, glittering costumes and graceful dancers from Los Gatos Ballet, the production–which debuts at West Valley Community College Theater on May 25–will be heavily laced with humor. … Los Gatos High School senior Madeleine Webber and Margot Aknin, a senior at Valley Christian, will each dance the lead in two performances as the scullery girl who lives happily ever after with her prince. … After graduation Webber will attend Westmont College in Santa Barbara, and will continue dancing with the State Street Ballet. San Jose native Aknin will enter the Pittsburg Ballet Theater as a trainee, and aims for a professional career in dance. more

The annual Jeff Mitchell Alumni Baseball Game will return to Westmont High School on May 1. The game honors the memory of the former Westmont all-league baseball player who died in the line of duty as a sheriff’s deputy in Sacramento County. Proceeds from the game will go toward the construction of Deputy Jeff Mitchell Field in El Dorado Hills and also help fund a scholarship in his name. more
Realizing how tough the job market is, three young women from Los Gatos decided to create their own summer jobs by designing a camp for girls called Project Funway. Project Funway is loosely based on the popular TV show Project Runway, in that the women will be teaching girls 9 years old and up how to sew.
Julianne Raasch and Kelly Carlquist, who attend Pepperdine University, plan to spend next year abroad at Pepperdine’s Switzerland campus. Raasch’s sister attends Westmont College in Montecito. more
