Before opting to commit to play at Westmont College in Santa Barbara over the weekend, Mayo had 23 digs and two aces at Mitty, then 19 digs and three aces against Prez. more

Dylan Belquist, Los Gatos basketball: The sophomore scored 31 points in a 68-59 win over Santa Teresa and 27 in a 57-48 win over Westmont. He is averaging 20.9 points per game. more

San Jose: Boys, girls basketball teams open BVAL play

The Longhorns, who were 9-16 overall last year, began their 2015-16 season by winning their first seven games, defeating Futures of North Highlands (85-50), Salinas (69-65), James Lick (84-38), Branham (44-41), Aptos (59-48), Westmont (63-49) and Averroes of Fremont (79-13) before suffering their first loss of the year, 45-34 to Mountain View in the first round of the St. Francis Holiday tournament. more

Westmont junior Samuel Blake won the varsity 3,200 with a PR of 9:28.21. Willow Glen junior Fenn Hoppe just missed a medal, but earned a PR with his seventh-place time of 9:38.60. Rams senior Abdinur Hussein finished ninth with a PR of 9:40.63. more

Leland gets momentum on its side, rolls to four wins in girls softball

The Chargers were scheduled to face Leigh earlier this week before hosting Westmont on March 28 at 4 p.m. Leland will also continue play in the Charlie Miguel Tournament on March 29 with the opponent and time still to be determined. more
