David Brooks, columnist for The New York Times and political analyst on PBS NewsHour, will speak at Westmont’s Commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 9, at 9:30 am on Carr Field. President Gayle D. Beebe presents the Westmont Medal in honor of all the local organizations that serve our community by assisting individuals and families facing enormous financial and personal challenges every day of their lives. more

Land Use Reviews Verizon Plans

Montecito Association’s Land Use Committee heard from Verizon Wireless agent Jay Higgins on Tuesday, reviewing Verizon’s plans to install 16 antennae on the top of Voskuyl Library. …Higgins told the Land Use Committee that Verizon has been working with Westmont for the last 10 years to provide better cellular coverage on campus. more

Westmont Hosts Pianist Primakov

Renowned Russian pianist Vassily Primakov, who recently released a new, two-CD album, Chopin: 51 Mazurkas, performs Saturday, April 25, at 3 pm in First United Methodist Church… The concert, which is co-sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Logan and the Westmont College Music Department, is a fundraiser for Westmont’s piano program. more

The number 13 Westmont baseball team, which narrowly swept number 5 The Master’s last weekend, hosts number 19 concordia on April 24-25 to conclude the regular season. more

100 Days to Special Olympics

The 100-day countdown to the start of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games began April 16. …Athletes will stay at Westmont, use the college’s facilities for training, and visit various locations throughout Santa Barbara to learn about the city’s culture. more

Soul Surfer Inspires Crowds

Bethany Hamilton, whose autobiography Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family and Fighting to Get Back on the Board, inspires the 2011 film Soul Surfer, spoke to more that 1200 people in a special chapel service April 10 in Westmont’s Murchison Gym. more
