Girls Soccer: Class 4A girls soccer all-state teams: Sarah Connelly of Valley Catholic is the player of the year

If Valley Catholic senior Sarah Connelly has played her last competitive soccer game, she at least picked a good one to go out on. Back on Nov. 15, Connelly — a senior on the Valiants girls team who has yet to decide on her future in soccer — scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the Class 4A state championship game, a goal that gave her team a3-2 victory over Cascade at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. … “I’m just super happy and excited,” Connelly said when alerted to the honor. “All the work really paid off, all the early-morning workouts. I really have to thank my teammates and (Valley Catholic coach Kayla Crandall).” … “Obviously, it’s not about individual honors — those just come with wins,” said Crandall, who played in high school at Jesuit, then for four years at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, serving as team captain her senior season. more

2012 college graduates get crash course in job-seeking

Life Story: Scott Resnick

From the time he was a small child, Scott Resnick dreamed of flying. He became an aircraft mechanic, owned an aircraft sales and acquisition business, and was preparing to become a flight instructor when he crashed to earth May 22 on his way to a memorial service for his uncle. He was 39. After high school, Scott’s life tumbled downhill. He dropped out of Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif., after a year, fished in Alaska, taught windsurfing and worked for a while in a Eugene lumber mill. more
