Serrano, Harmening selected as Westmont’s first Cliff Hamlow award recipients

Madison Serrano and Russell Harmening have been named as Westmont’s recipients of the inaugural Cliff Hamlow Champions of Character Awards presented by the Golden State Athletic Conference.

The award is given to one male and one female student-athlete on each GSAC campus who demonstrates outstanding athletic achievement, campus and community leadership and future ambition and who embraces the five core character values of the NAIA Champions of Character program (Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership). Student-athletes must be at least a junior academically and carry a 3.0 GPA. more

MBK: Westmont KO’d by Concordia in GSAC semis

The Westmont men’s basketball team dropped the GSAC Tournament semifinal game tonight at seventh-ranked Concordia 78-58.

“Concordia is good. They are very, very good and sometimes quickness wins out. They are a team that  is fast all the way around and that is going to hurt you in the end” said Westmont coach John Moore. more

TRK: Mitchell makes Westmont history at NAIA Indoor Nationals

Thanks to today’s first place finish in the 600 meters by senior Elysia Mitchell and three additional All-American performances, Westmont Women’s Track and Field took fifth place at the NAIA Indoor National Championships – the highest finish in program history. The Warriors tallied 41 points, just two points out of fourth place. more

MBK: Seniors lead the way for Westmont in tourney opener

Seniors Daniel Carlin and Nate Marsing extended their Westmont College basketball careers one more game with stellar performances on Thursday night.

Carlin scored a career-high 29 points, while Marsing contained The Master’s best player and the conference’s leading scorer, leading the Warriors to an 89-75 win in a first-round game of the GSAC Tournament on Thursday at Murchison Gym. more

SBART Luncheon: McCutcheon expresses joy on being in Santa Barbara

On his first day on the job as UCSB’s Director of Athletics, John McCutcheon stopped by Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Luncheon with Gary Cunningham, the man who previously held the position.

Westmont women’s basketball coach Kirsten Moore offered a warm welcome to McCutcheon and gave him props for bringing much needed rain to the area. more

WBK: Westmont’s McCoy named GSAC PoW

For the second time this season, Westmont freshman Lauren McCoy has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The six-foot forward from Arcata averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game last week as the #15 Warriors (24-5, 11-5 GSAC) finished the GSAC season on a seven-game winning streak. more

CBB: Westmont bats give Harmening plenty of support

By the time right-hander Russell Harmening had taken the mound, Warrior sluggers had already provided more than enough firepower to win the game. A lead-off double by Michael Stefanic and back-to-back home runs by Blake Matthias and Michael Pollex paved the way for Westmont Baseball’s 7-0 Golden State Athletic Conference blanking of the Mustangs of The Master’s College (17-5, 12-4 GSAC). With the win, the Warriors improved to 16-5 overall and 10-4 in GSAC play. more

The Westmont women’s tennis team (6-3, 4-1 GSAC) unearthed an old rivalry this afternoon as they headed down south to take on Azusa Pacific University (6-2). more

MBK: Blau goes for 30 in Westmont victory

EL CAJON – #25 Westmont’s men’s basketball team (19-8, 11-3 GSAC) finished their longest road trip of the season with a 78-64 win against San Diego Christian (5-18, 0-15 GSAC) this evening. Earlier this week, the Warriors took down #11 Arizona Christian, so tonight’s win will cap off the second win of a very successful travel series. more
