MACE, John Sutton

With family and friends by his bedside, John Sutton Mace of Lompoc, CA was called home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the age of 78.  He was born in San Jose, CA on October 31, 1929 to Dr. Calver and Mrs. Harriet Mace. John graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara and received his teaching credential through Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. more

OH, THAT SINKING FEELING . . .

The second of two Discovery Camps held at Westmont College wrapped up on Friday. The one-week camps offer youngsters age 10-13 the opportunity to expand their knowledge of science while having fun. more

COLE, Thelma

Thelma died from cancer complications, on July 3, 2008, at Valle Verde. In Santa Barbara, her friendships were especially abundant in the Free Methodist Church, the Westmont College community, and in the Valle Verde Retirement Community, where she has lived for twelve years. more

Following a four-year review process, the National Association of Schools of Music Commission on Accreditation has granted associate membership to Westmont College. The college’s next full review begins in five years. more

Santa Barbara lost one of its great citizens on June 24, 2008; with the passing of Theodore (Ted) H. Smyth, age 93. He volunteered his time to both UCSB and Westmont College. more

Serving those who serve : Dr. James Angelos heads to Iraq to help those in combat zone cope with stress

Dr. James Angelos, 60, is starting of a year-long appointment to the Office of Medical Services in the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, where he will treat civil servants — and some Marines — trying to cope with the stress of being in a war zone. He is the husband of Ruth Angelos, assistant to the director of library and supervisor of interlibrary loans for Westmont. more

Westmont proposes 13-unit condo

With median home prices on the South Coast remaining out of the reach of even working-class professionals, Westmont College has proposed to build a 13-unit condominium at 505 W. Los Olivos St. that would begin with demolition of an existing 2,250-square-foot duplex, and a 2,400-square-foot single-family residence. more
