LOCAL ROUNDUP: Warriors open baseball season with twinbill sweep

Saturday was a long first day for the Westmont baseball team, but it was a very successful effort. The host hit the field at Russ Carr Field for a doubleheader against Lewis-Clark State, and came away with a 4-3 win in 11 innings in the opener, followed by a 6-4 win in the nightcap. more

Biola foiled a late comeback by Westmont, beating the Warriors 63-60 on Tuesday in La Mirada in the final Golden State Athletic Conference game between the two staunch rivals. more

Lights, camera, competition

And they’re off! The 10 high school and 10 college students chosen for this year’s 10-10-10 Student Filmmaking Competition, part of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, appeared in a brief press conference before starting work on their short films. It’s the competition’s 14th year… College age scriptwriters are Jordan Metz from UCSB; Malena McKaba, Hunter Lum and Troy Wullbrandt from Santa Barbara City College, and Valerie Cripe from Westmont. more

Local IT services company announces merger

Santa Barbara-based network supplier and IT equipment services company Curvature LLC last week announced a merger with SMS Systems and Maintenance Services Inc., a global market leader in IT data center services.. The company will also look to build upon its relationship with UCSB, Santa Barbara City College and Westmont College, Mr. Sheldon told the News-Press. more
