The deck appeared to be stacked against Hart High’s Bryce Collins, who, along with teammate Cole Roederer, received word Wednesday they’d made the Brewers Area Code Games team.

Collins, a rising senior who pitched better and better as last season went along, felt sick the day before his Area Code tryout at Westmont College in Santa Barbara earlier this month. more

TMC Insider: Mustang teams close in on postseason

While the weather is cooling down, things are starting to heat up at The Master’s College as eight of its 12 teams are currently in action. After capping off its regular-season schedule by beating San Diego Christian College 1-0 in El Cajon last Wednesday, The Master’s College women’s soccer team now looks to the postseason. It will again play the Hawks on Tuesday at Reese Field in the first round of the GSAC Women’s Soccer Tournament. TMC enters the six-team conference tournament with a No. 3 seed, while SDCC’s late-season heroics earned it the tournament’s sixth seed. Tuesday’s match is slated for a 2 p.m. start. The Master’s College men’s soccer team fell to San Diego Christian 2-1 in its regular-season finale last Wednesday, but now looks to rebound this week where it will travel to Santa Barbara for a match against Westmont College in the first round of the GSAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. more

Currently, the fifth-ranked San Diego Christian Hawks (35-11, 22-11 GSAC) sit first in the conference standings, while the 12th-ranked Mustangs (35-13, 21-12) are just one game behind in second place.
