New principal seeks home

After spending much of his entire educational career at struggling schools, Andy Cline is thrilled to have been named principal at St. Helena Elementary School. Cline grew up in Fremont and attended Westmont College, University of San Diego and National University, where he earned a master’s degree in educational administration. more

Charting a spiritual direction: Ruthanne Svendsen enjoys her ‘Main Street’ ministry around town

What Ruthanne Svendsen remembers most about attending church as a youngster is having her hair curled for the occasion and being outfitted in dresses so frilly she had to stand up on the front seat of the car so they wouldn’t wrinkle…She took the next step at age 17 when she climbed on a train in Missoula and headed to Santa Barbara’s Westmont College, an evangelical fundamentalist school. more

Sunrise Soroptimist scholarships

The latest crop of St. Helena High School graduates to be awarded scholarships from Soroptimist International of St. Helena Sunrise include Dascia Skadal who will attend Westmont College. Her scholarship, for $2,000, was for academic excellence. more
