SBCC men’s tennis program back after three year hiatus

Andrew is a transfer student from Cal Lutheran University, returning to his home town after hearing that Santa Barbara City College, was fielding a tennis team after a three year hiatus from intercollegiate competition. more

Ed Inks’ final art exhibition evokes emotional response

City College’s Atkinson Gallery is currently hosting Design Professor Edward Inks’ last exhibit to celebrate his retirement from the college. …His piece, “Musical Chairs,” best communicates the mentorship theme. It is accompanied by a photograph of his 2006  “Musical Chairs” steel and concrete sculpture, from the Westmont College Ridley-Tree Museum of Art. more

Beach City dorms will need to enforce curfews to flourish

Tropicana and other student dorms charge renters with cars an extra fee to keep down the traffic and congestion. Westmont has rules that ensure first and second year students do not bring cars, which alleviated some of their parking problems. more

Pangaea Fest celebrates youth activism with music, club booths, global attitudes

Earth Day may have come and gone, but City College will urge students and locals alike to preserve the spirit of empowerment, environmental and social awareness during Saturday’s Pangaea Festival…He said the foundation focuses particularly on children from Ghana, and players who received the foundation’s scholarships and now play for UCSB and Westmont will attend the event, with goals and shooting drills set up for kids. more

Student show awards art scholarships

City College’s annual Student Show will open for viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Atkinson Gallery. For students, this art exhibition will be the biggest of the year…Dan Connally, professor at the College of Creative Studies at UCSB, will serve as the juror of the exhibit this year, following Judy Larson, director of the Reynolds Gallery at Westmont College, who was the juror in 2009. more

Professor adopts Ethiopian sisters

Tucked away in the suburbs of Ventura, a white picket fence borders the home of a family that has come together in an atypical way. A professor, her husband and their adopted Ethiopian daughters live inside…As a Westmont and Pepperdine graduate, 33-year-old Hock has lived in Spain, Hawaii, and traveled to nine different countries. more

Incident Report – Bus stuck in lower parking lot

A bus driving Westmont College’s soccer team was towed out of the lower campus parking lot next to La Playa Stadium. The driver reportedly reversed up the roadway towards the Life Fitness Center, and the bus got stuck. A tow truck dragged the bus out, which left grooves around 4 inches long. more
