National Charity League Conejo Valley Chapter honors seniors

Tess Adkins Feiler attended La Reina High School, where she played volleyball for four years, served as a member of the Multi- cultural Club, Change-maker Leadership Team and as an altar server. During her six years in NCL, Tess held the offices of vice president and treasurer. She has earned the Yellow Rosebud Award, Yellow Rose Award, Hourglass Award, Heart of Gold Award, Young Adult Bronze Award and President’s Volunteer Service Award. She volunteered at Los Robles Regional Medical Center for two years. Tess will attend Westmont College. Savannah attended Oak Park High School, where she was an AP Scholar and a member of California Scholarship Foundation. more

NPHS orchestra to perform

The Newbury Park High School orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. Tues., March 14 at the school’s performing arts center, 456 N. Reino Road… This concert will be a preview of the Festival of Gold program and will also feature an appearance by the string quartet of Westmont College. more

If you ever laid eyes on June Ethel Dawn Coronado, chances are you haven’t forgotten her. For more than two decades, the makeup-and-wig-wearing homeless woman known as “Jenny” or “Freeway Annie” was one of the most recognizable faces in the area. … “It was the peak of the counterculture hippie movement with a constant stream of flower children hitchhiking up and down the coast in search of freedom and the soul altering experiences of sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll,” wrote Dan Hodgson, an area pastor who at the time was a student at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. “And right in the thick of this . . . was a rugged, bold, fearless, lone independent witness for Jesus taking the message to this diverse crowd that they needed him.” more

Red Cross of Ventura County gets new staff

The American Red Cross of Ventura County recently announced the appointment of three new personnel to its staff…Ava Avedissian was hired as the new emergency services coordinator…She is a graduate of Westmont College, where she helped to revise, train and implement emergency plans. more
