Before the Westmont College women’s basketball team took the court last Wednesday night to play for a national title, it gathered for an emotional pregame speech. Head coach Kirsten Moore’s husband, Alex, died last May from complications following surgery for Crohn’s disease. The 31-year-old was an assistant professor of kinesiology at Westmont and spent a lot of time with the team. more

CLU Notebook: Wade gets right into swim of things

The offseason pickup games gave Dan Wade a brief introduction to college basketball. It made the Cal Lutheran freshman realize he had some work to do before he could contribute to the team. Wade spent many hours in the gym trying to improve his game. He still arrives early and stays late after practice to get up as many shots as possible….The women’s tennis team opens its season against Westmont at 2 p.m. Friday. more

Ybarra named new Fusion coach

The new coach is a familiar Fusion face. Rudy Ybarra, who served as an assistant coach during the inaugural 2007 Premier Development League season, has returned to the Ventura County Fusion as the third head coach in franchise history…Ybarra will bring in longtime Westmont coach Dave Wolf as his top assistant. more
