The Rev. Dan Price to retire

First Presbyterian Church of Eureka is proud, yet reluctant, to announce the retirement of the Rev. Daniel J. Price at the end of May.

Price has served the church and community for over 25 years. His last service will be May 27. … Price grew up in Southern California, attended Westmont College and had his first work as a youth pastor in Fresno. After his marriage to Karen, they moved to Europe. He worked in numerous parishes throughout Scotland in Fettercairn, Auchenblae, Glenbervie, Aberdeen and Stonehaven. During this time, he completed his doctorate in theology from the University of Aberdeen. more

Westmont students headed for Singapore with help from Goleta-based Deckers: International Trade, Finance and Ethical Sourcing

Tricia Price Joins Family Service Agency Board

Family Service Agency has announced Tricia Thorsell Price, former superintendent of Cold Spring School District, has joined its board of directors. … Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Price earned her bachelor of arts and multiple subject teaching credential at Westmont College. She completed her masters degree in education administration at California State Channel Islands and her Ed.D. at Fielding University. more

Hancock College working to update emergency response procedures; bond decision expected next month

The Hancock College board of trustees on Tuesday received a report on the state of their emergency response protocols and update on the consideration of a bond measure for the November 2018 election. … With the Thomas fire and 1/9 Debris Flow still at the forefront of the county’s collective consciousness, Underwood said she reached out to faculty and staff at Westmont College — who were not only affected by the fire and mudslides but, also, successfully addressed and mitigated impacts from the Tea fire in 2008 — for advice. “This last graduating class from Westmont College was evacuated five times,” she said. “[They] have all types of experience dealing with this.” more

Matt McCall hopes third run for Congress is the charm

Westmont College celebrates commencement following Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslides 328 students graduated on Saturday

The class of 2018 graduated from Westmont College on Saturday despite tragedies that marked their senior year.
Students evacuated at least 5 times during the Thomas Fire and the Montecito mudslides that almost took the life of one of their own.

The ceremony took place on Carr Field. more

Westmont students end a stressful semester with furry friends

Westmont students were treated to some de-stress activities on campus Wednesday, including a visit from therapy dogs.

It’s all in an effort to help students cope with finals and bring some positivity after a tough semester filled with evacuations from the Thomas Fire and Montecito mudslide. more
