A South Coast university has received a two million dollar grant to beef up the success rate for students.
The money will be used for Westmont College’s new Center for Student Success. The center will help students with support inside and outside of the classroom. more
TMU freshman Seanna Nalbandyan was shocked when she noticed Westmont College’s Emily Parks in her periphery as the runners reached the final barrier in the 400-meter hurdles last week.
“I didn’t hear her coming up through the race,” said Nalbandyan, a Canyon High graduate. “When I saw her, it kind of shocked me. But I was like, ‘I worked too hard this season to get second.’” more

Proponents of a new conversion therapy bill that passed in the California Assembly earlier this month say that, if signed into law, will add the practice to the state list of what’s considered consumer fraud. … It’s not clear how it would affect religious institutions. Scott Craig, the manager for media relations at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, told the News–Press that they will need more time to read and understand the bill to determine if it might apply to the college. more
Isaac Coffey didn’t pretend to be Babe Ruth and call his third home run against Ventura last week.
A triple-shot order of Coffey would’ve been out of character for the steady hand of the Dos Pueblos High School baseball team.
But he did receive a call — from older brother Luke, who is having a Ruthian season of his own at Westmont College — about his biggest day at the plate.
“It was pretty cool,” Isaac said. “He was just saying that he was proud of me for having a three home-run game, and asked me about the details, and how it felt ? What it was like.” more

Michael Viebeck, who started his career with American Riviera Bank interning as a credit analyst, has been promoted to a full-time position as a commercial banking officer with the Santa Barbara-based community bank. Viebeck graduated from Westmont College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and business in May 2016. more
